The world needs dreamers and the world needs doers. But above all, the world needs dreamers who do. - Sarah Ban Breathnach
Dear Neighbors,
Yesterday I went to get my hair trimmed. It was a simple little errand, a commonplace doing, and yet it turned out to be so much more.
My favorite hair stylist has moved to a new salon that I didn’t even know existed, so I had no idea what to expect.
When I got there, I saw that the business is located in an old house that has been given a beautiful new face with fresh paint and pretty decorative details. I opened the door and was literally stunned when I saw the space inside. During the renovation, interior walls were removed to create a light-filled room with high ceilings. Parts of the walls are painted with warm orange panels, and the furniture is a soft honey color. What really made my heart happy is the jungle of gorgeous plants that line the walls, hang from the ceiling, and cascade from pots that are set on top of decorative partitions. The many shades of the green foliage, and the textures and shapes of the plants give the room a delightful bringing-the-outside-in feel.
I learned that the salon is part of the Ashland Wellness Collective, a group of six health and beauty businesses that include the hair salon, a juice and snacks bar, and a fitness studio.
When you arrive you are offered tea or coffee, items off the juice bar menu, or even a glass of rosé wine that has been custom made for the salon.
The wine was made by a winemaker friend of ours, and his wife was the one who founded the unique salon. She has “always dreamt of creating a lively and lounge-y salon that goes a step beyond her craft—an inspiring space that allows for gathering, relaxation and connection. Of course, that dream salon of hers would naturally feature wine made by her talented winemaking husband, so with that, he and his hair stylist wife have created a wine club that is associated with the hair salon.”
I was delighted to hear the story of the salon owner’s dream, which she has brought to life in such astunning way. And it’s wonderful that her passion, and her husband’s skill and vocation, have been combined in such a creative way.
I left my appointment feeling relaxed and charmed by my experience. It is such a gift to hear stories about people who have turned their dreams into a reality.
Being a plant lover I greatly admired the gorgeous tropical plants that I saw in the salon. So, when I got home, I couldn’t help but seek out and acquire a clipping of one of the species that I saw there and particularly covet.
Isn’t it wonderful when an everyday event becomes a special and memorable experience?
The photo looks beautiful! Who's your hair person? What's the name of the place?
